We, the FOND OF GmbH, grant a four-year manufacturer’s warranty on all schoolbags purchased on or after October 1, 2025, covering material and processing defects. The warranty period begins on the date of purchase.

Purchases before September 15 of a given year:

If the schoolbag is purchased before September 15 of a given year, the warranty ends on September 15 four years later.

Example:

  • A family purchases a backpack on June 10, 2026;
  • the child starts school in August 2026.
  • Warranty period calculation
  • Purchase date: June 10, 2026
  • Start of period: June 11, 2026
  • End of period: September 15, 2030

→ The warranty begins on the date of purchase and ends on September 15, 2030.

Purchases on or after September 15 of a given year:

If the backpack is purchased on or after September 15 of a given year, the warranty ends four years after the date of purchase.

Example:

  • A family purchases a backpack on September 20, 2026;
  • the child started school in August 2026.
  • Warranty period calculation:
  • Purchase date: September 20, 2026
  • Start of period: September 21, 2026
  • End of period: September 20, 2030

→ The warranty begins on the date of purchase and ends on September 20, 2030.

This warranty is valid in the European Union and Switzerland, provided that you have purchased an ergobag schoolbag as a consumer within the meaning of § 13 BGB (German Civil Code). Your statutory rights as a consumer in the event of defects (subsequent performance, withdrawal or reduction as well as, if applicable, damages in accordance with Sections 437 et seq. German Civil Code) are not limited by this warranty, but can be asserted against the respective dealer (seller) independently and free of charge.

If you identify material or processing defects within the warranty period and return the ergobag school bag to the respective dealer or directly to us before the warranty expires, we will rectify the defect in question or replace the ergobag school bag with a defect-free product. We make the decision on how to remedy the defects. We will cover the costs incurred for rectifying defects as well as any shipping costs incurred. We will not assume any other costs that may also arise in connection with the warranty claim, such as costs for shipping packaging.

The warranty does not cover normal wear and tear and damage caused by improper handling, accidents or extreme temperatures.

All accessories of the ergobag school bags to which only the statutory warranty rights apply are excluded from the warranty, in particular: Leisure backpacks, duffle bags, gym bags, pencil cases and rolls incl. filling, rain capes, folder boxes, drinking bottles, neck pouches, hangies, kletties, zippies, school cone, umbrellas and reflective stickers.

Please note that the ergobag school bag may deform due to external influences such as a washing cycle in the dishwasher or washing machine or strong force from above, such as sitting on it, causing it to lose its stability. In addition, the deformed body can lead to the inability to open/close your school bag (pack/cubo/maxi/cubo light) properly. In these cases, our warranty does not apply, as it is a case of incorrect handling.

In the event of a warranty claim, the warranty period will not be extended.

To make a warranty claim, you must first provide details of your ergobag schoolbag by e-mail, telephone or directly using the online contact form provided. These details include the proof of purchase (invoice or receipt), a description of the damage, photos of the damage and the personal address of the applicant. Approximately 1–2 working days after submitting the form, you will receive a reply from us by e-mail in which the warranty case is qualified and the further procedure is explained.

Procedure in the event of a warranty claim

If all the necessary information is provided and the warranty claim is valid, you will receive a return label from us to return the ergobag school bag to us in the original box or suitable packaging. The school bag will be inspected and repaired approx. 1–2 working days after receipt of the return. If the defect in the product is irreparable, you will be contacted again by e-mail and informed of your right to a replacement product. If the inspection shows that there is no valid warranty claim, we will return your ergobag school bag to you free of charge.

Which products are covered by the warranty?

The warranty covers all our school bag and backpack models (cubo Set, cubo light Set, pack Set, maxi Set, flex, flex Set, prime, prime Set). But the included set components, such as pencil cases, gym bags, folder boxes, Kletties, etc., are excluded from the warranty.

Which products are excluded from the warranty?

All of our accessories and our range of leisure backpacks are excluded from the warranty. It only applies to our school bags and range of school bags. The accessories included in a school bag set are also excluded from the warranty.

What damage or defects are covered by the warranty?

The warranty covers defects in material and workmanship. The warranty does not cover normal wear and tear or damage caused by improper handling, accidents, or extreme temperatures.

Why was the manufacturer’s warranty increased from 2 years to 4 years?

Until now, you have been able to extend our 2-year manufacturer’s warranty to a total of 4 years. To save you this extra step and provide you with even better service from the get-go, we have extended the warranty to 4 years as of October 1, 2025, without requiring any additional action from you.

When does the new 4-year warranty start?

The new provision took effect on October 1, 2025. If you purchased your school bag after this date, the 4-year warranty automatically applies.

Do I need to do anything to get the 4-year warranty, or is it automatically valid?

If you purchased your school bag after October 1, 2025, the 4-year warranty automatically applies. You don't need to do anything else.

How do I make a warranty claim? What documents do I need?

To file a warranty claim, simply contact us – by email, telephone, or our online contact form. We will need the proof of purchase (invoice, receipt, order confirmation or bank statement), a brief description of the damage, a few photos, and your address information. As soon as we have received your form, you will receive a response by email within 1-2 working days. The email will explain how the case is categorized and what the next steps will be.

What is the procedure in the event of a warranty claim?

Once we have all the information from you, we will send you a return label. Please return your ergobag school bag to us in the original box or in a suitable package. Once it arrives at our facility, we will carefully inspect it and, if possible, perform the repair right away. If the bag cannot be repaired, we will provide you with a replacement model. If it turns out that this is not a warranty case, we will of course return your ergobag to you free of charge.

How long does it take to process a warranty case?

Processing usually takes up to 14 days. In exceptional cases – for example, in the case of more complex repairs – it may take a little longer.

Why is September 15 the cut-off date for the warranty period?

September 15 takes into account the typical school enrollment period throughout Europe, since the start of school usually falls between the beginning and the middle of September.

Should I buy the school bag as close to the start of school as possible to cover the primary school period? (Applies for 4 years as of the start of school or purchase date)

To ensure that your warranty always runs for at least 4 years, we have introduced the following rule: - If you bought your school bag before September 15, the guarantee is valid until September 15 four years later. So you get a guarantee of at least 4 years. - If you bought it on or after September 15, the warranty begins on the purchase date and ends exactly four years later. So you get exactly 4 years of warranty.

I bought my school bag shortly before the cut-off date. Do I still have to request the extension?

Yes, if you purchased your school bag before October 1, 2025, you still need to complete the online warranty extension form for the 4-year warranty. It only takes 2 minutes and you get to benefit from the warranty for a full 4 years.

Does the warranty also apply internationally if I buy the product abroad?

The warranty applies to all ergobag school bags purchased by consumers within the European Union or in Switzerland.

What is the difference between a statutory warranty and a manufacturer’s warranty?
  • The statutory warranty is regulated by law and runs for 24 months for new goods. It covers damage that the goods had from the outset, at least to some extent.
  • A manufacturer’s warranty, on the other hand, is a voluntary additional service provided by the manufacturer (manufacturer's warranty) or the retailer (retailer's guarantee). Whether and for how long it applies depends on the respective guarantee conditions. The statutory warranty always remains in force.
Which terms and conditions apply: are they the terms and conditions on the insert in the rucksack or those in the PDF attached to the email?

As we have amended our manufacturer’s warranty terms and conditions as of 1 October, the new terms and conditions apply to all purchases made on or after 1 October. You can find these in the PDF attached to the order confirmation email or on our website.
