Is there any one school bag that's right for every kid?

No two children are exactly alike – especially in size and stature, differences among elementary school kids can vary widely. Fortunately, ergobag is the right bag for any kid.

Too heavy and impractical? Not anymore

Do you remember your primary school days? For many children their schoolbag was way too big and heavy, and it pulled on their back. Running or playing with a schoolbag was out of the question! Some children had back problems or grew out of their schoolbags and others were already bored of their princess design in the second grade. That's how it was back then but fortunately a lot has changed since then. Today you can buy your child a school bag that fits them for a long time and that your child will continue to like until the end of the fourth grade.

Ergonomics is printed on every school backpack label. But what does it actually mean? The term comes from the world of work and describes how well people, their surroundings and their equipment fit together. Applied to a child's back: an ergonomic school bag gives your child room to move freely – and looks after their back in the long run.

It's worth taking the whole picture into account. Ergonomics isn't only about the backpack itself, but also about what's inside it and how it's adjusted. And it has a counterpart: children who climb, jump and run around build exactly the muscles they need for carrying.

Finding the right schoolbag

For a back pack to fit well, many points are crucial: The straps should be pleasantly padded and make carrying comfortable for kids of all heights and sizes. The chest strap should not only be height-adjustable, it should also be width-adjustable. Ergobag-Models have these features: The chest strap can be enlarged by up to eight centimetres so that it fits well on every child.

The waist belt is also important: It should ensure that most of the weight is transferred from the back to the more stable pelvic area. The ergobag’s circumference can be adjusted and has a range of 55 to 90 centimetres, so that it can be adapted to any child.

Can a school backpack grow?

Not only are the waist and chest straps adjustable but even the entire backpack will grow with your child. Therefore, it will remain a faithful companion even after your child's growth spurts. The Ergobag has an ergonomically formed aluminium rail, which fits itself to the child's back and by a height-adjustable carrier system the backpack can grow, from a height of approximately 1 meter to 1.50 meters.

Also the school bag should be comfortable to carry in all seasons: So we made sure that the back cushions are breathable so that kids don't sweat unnecessarily, even in the summer time. In winter the backpack also fits well, even with a thick winter jacket the Ergobag is not too tight.

Also you can change the design!

Before school starts your child loves dolphins but shortly after they move onto dinosaurs and then in the second grade their new thing is unicorns. Who can relate? Should you then buy a new satchel every time? No way! That's why it's great if you can not only change the size of the backpack but also it’s appearance.

Kids can adapt their school backpacks to their individual interests whenever they want, with exchangeable Ergobag Velcro motifs. They can either choose from more than 30 Klettie-Sets or design their own!. But that is by no means the end of the individualization possibilities. The backpack can also be customized with safety sets, reflector safety sets oder side pockets Zip sets. These are available in four fluorescent colours for the ergobag pack, cubo or cubo light.

So you can be sure that the backpack will fit and please the kids the whole time they are in elementary school. No matter how much they grow or how often their taste and favourite animal change!

Fits big and small – the ergobag grows along

The pack, cubo and maxi models all use the Your-Size-System. The cubo light uses the Hugging System instead, which saves weight and adjusts individually via its fitting straps. Ergonomics is a major factor in how we develop our products – so children get a good fit whether they're tall or small.

There are no limits on the look either: swappable Kletties and colourful safety sets mean the backpack can be adapted to a child's taste at any time – whether dolphins, dinos or unicorns happen to be the thing right now.

Adjusting the backpack is child's play

A school backpack is the right one when it fits perfectly and is built to take the strain off your child's back. A lot of things go into a good fit: the straps should be comfortably padded and pleasant to wear for children of any size and build. A chest strap relieves the back – and it shouldn't just be adjustable in height, but also in width so it sits exactly right.

That's how it works on the ergobag models: the chest strap adjusts individually in both height and width, so it grows along – whether your child is slight or more sturdily built.

The hip belt matters just as much. The ergobag's Beckenflossen – hip fins that wrap around the hips – shift most of the weight off the back and onto the sturdier pelvis, close to the body's centre where it pulls the least. The circumference adjusts flexibly from around 55 to 90 centimetres, which covers everyone from a slight first-grader to a sturdy fourth-grader.

One thing matters here: the chest and hip belts have to actually be fastened. Otherwise the whole weight ends up back on the shoulders.

Depending on the model, one of two ergonomic carrying systems is used:

the Your-Size-System on the pack, cubo and maxi – height-adjustable and growing along from 100 to 170 cm, or the Hugging System on the ultra-light cubo light – especially snug and ideal for smaller, slighter children.

Adjusting the carrying system is child's play, and it's part of what makes the ergobag a proper everyday hero. The IGR e. V. seal "Ergonomic Product" confirms it.

This guide shows you exactly how to adjust your ergobag:

The design adapts too

You know how it goes. Before school starts it's dolphins, shortly afterwards dinosaurs, and by year two it's unicorns. Buy a new backpack every time? Not a chance. Which is why it helps when you can adapt the backpack not only in size, but in looks as well.

At ergobag, swappable Kletties mean children always have their favourite motif with them. They can choose from more than 30 Klettie sets or design their own Kletties. And that's not where the personalisation stops: the backpack can also be kitted out with safety sets to match personal taste. They come as plain sets, with reflective stripes, or as side pockets with extra storage – each in four fluorescent colours, for every ergobag model.

So you can be sure the backpack will fit and please your child throughout primary school. However much they grow – and however often their taste and their favourite animal change.

Big backpack or small? No problem

With a school backpack from ergobag you don't have to worry about whether it will fit your child. The ergonomics make sure the backpack sits comfortably and looks after the back – on small, slim children and on tall ones alike. Freedom of movement and safety come as standard. In short: the ergobag does your child good, in every sense.
